Behind the Scenes: Our Visit to the Freeze-Dried Coffee Facility
The founders (Grace and Steven) took a tour of the freeze-drying coffee facility in October 2024. Not only did they get a firsthand look at the entire production process, but they also captured some amazing behind-the-scenes shots of the factory floor.
One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the full lifecycle of freeze-dried coffee—from cold brew concentrate to the final powder that ends up in our capsules. Here’s a quick look at what we saw:
Cold Brew Workshop

Where it all begins—cold brew coffee being prepared in stainless steel vats.
It all starts here, where high-quality coffee is cold brewed then filtered out.
Concentrate Trays

Trays filled with rich cold brew concentrate, ready for the freeze-drying chamber.
The coffee concentrate is poured into trays and prepped for the freeze-drying process.
Freeze-Drying Chambers

Industrial freeze dryers use ultra-low temperatures to turn liquid into solid flakes.
The trays are placed into a specialized drier where low temperatures and a vacuum environment turn the liquid into solid flakes through sublimation.
Coffee Crystallization and Grinding

The freeze-dried coffee emerges as delicate, glassy flakes—lightweight and aromatic.
After drying, the coffee appears as thin, delicate crystallized flakes. These flakes are then ground down to an optimal size.
Capsule Filling and Heat Seal
Final step—ground coffee flakes are precisely filled into capsules.
Coffee is packed neatly into capsules and sealed, ready to enjoy.
Taste Testing
Grace and Steven sampling various brews.
In addition to touring the facility, Grace and Steven also participated in a few taste tests. It was a fun (and caffeinated) way to experience the nuanced flavors of each blend and ensure that only the best-tasting coffee makes it into our products.
Cozy Indigo Coffee is committed to bringing you the highest quality freeze-dried coffee on the market.
